Currency
The currency in Albania is Lek (ALL). One Euro (EUR) is 140,25 Lek (4th January 2015). In Albania and Saranda "cash is king". In all restaurants, shops and supermarkets you pay in cash. Credit cards are just used in some big stores and big hotels. In Saranda you can use both Lek and Euro, but be ware of that the exchange rate is not always the best if you pay with Euro in restaurants.
Exchange
In many countries it is not possible to exchange into Lek. Don't worry about that, bring some Euro and you can pay for example taxi when you arrive. There are quite many banks and bankomats in Saranda (for example Reiffheisen bank and Societe General Albania). Most of them are situated near the Square Nene Theresa in the city centre, just above Restaurant Limani. You also find a bankomat just next to Hotel Butrinti (close to the taxi stand in the end of the promenade). Most of the bankomats take VISA-card and MasterCard and gives you Lek. The maximum amount is 50 000 Lek per day. There are some bankomats that gives you Euro also. Open hours for banks are often 8:30-15:00 and for bankomats 24 hours a day.
